Personnel Announcement Letters - Any time that there were personnel
changes involving the sales or technical staff, a notification letter would
have to be sent to our customers. Back in the late 60's and early 70's,
before we were using copy machines, all of our technical bulletins, sales
literature, and such were printed in house, down in the basement right next
to the lab. Jerry Deibler and Sue Francis ran the operation. You wouldn't
believe how much paper that machine would turn into trash! There was always
a lot of extra copies that ended up in the trash, and I would periodically
pull one out to see what was going on. And somehow they got saved in a file.
Candid Photos - On a couple of occasions, I brought my camera to work take a few snapshots. I wish I would have done it more often, because it is really neat to look back to see what it was like then. But that was before digital cameras! I've also included a few pictures that were given to me along the way. Laboratory Personnel - During my 18 years as lab manager, I was responsible for hiring (and firing) the people. When I look back, I feel fortunate in my association with the lab, and the freedom that I was given in running it. It is satisfying to me knowing that I was able to hire mostly untrained young people for their first "real" job, and mold them into responsible and caring workers. We put an emphasis on quality before it was the "in" thing. We didn't pay very much, so it was a real challenge to keep them. It would take about 6 months to train them, and I felt that if we could keep them for at least 2 years we would be ahead. Of course, I didn't train them myself...that was done by all of their co-workers. What an interesting and diverse group of people passed thru the lab culture...I wonder where they are now! |
