Great Smokey Mountains - October 2008
After planning this outing for years, Rickie was finally able to put together a trip to the Great Smokey Mountains. She had been there on a family vacation in 1959, and we took our first auto trip together there in 1971. We shared this trip with our long time friends, Pat and Judi Barrett.  After much research we settled on a rental cabin called "Misty Moonlight", a place we would highly recommend. It is part of the Little Valley Resort in Sevierville, TN, not far from Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. We spent a week, leaving on Sunday morning Oct 19th and returning home the following Sunday. We were very fortunate that the weather was absolutely beautiful for 6 of the seven days, with mild temperatures.  Our cabin was high up with a great view and relatively isolated from other cabins so that we had our own space. But at the same time only a few miles from the local retail which included a large Kroger store where we did our food shopping.  We figured that the fall foliage was about a week short of it's peak, but on the Tuesday after we returned home, we read in the newspaper that they had a snowstorm that closed Rt 441 over the mountains. So, perhaps we did choose the peak time!

You can check out a short video to get a flavor of the cabin...it was really neat! Also, a link to a bunch of photos of the trip.
